David Miles, from the Office for Budget Responsibility, says that, despite the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank and worries about Credit Suisse, there’s reason to be confident in the banking system:

‘Just before the global financial crisis, banks in the UK held reserves of a bit less than £30bn. There was virtually nothing in the system. That’s why in 2008, when people panicked, it was a crisis immediately. Banks now have £900bn.’ – David Miles

On the rest of the show, deputy features editor Gus Carter and writer Nina Power discuss why men are in crisis, Economist defence editor Shashank Joshi and China expert Eyck Freymann look at whether Aukus can deter China from invading Taiwan, and contributor Cosmo Landesman explains why he used to pretend to be working class.
