A psychiatrist plots to murder his wife, by brainwashing a patient he is treating into committing the crime.

After making his filmmaking debut with LIKE MOTHER LIKE DAUGHTER, genre filmmaker Robert Vincent O'Neill, BLOOD MANIA, ANGEL) launched his sophomore film with this sleazy yet enjoyable thriller that has a psychiatrist (Lawrence Montaigne, THE GREAT ESCAPE, YOUNG LADY CHATTERLEY) who is treating a mentally disturbed man (Frank Cuva, GAME SHOW MODELS, THE NOTORIOUS CLEOPATRA) that is behind a series of rapes and murders in the neighborhood, with Montaigne cheating on his shrewish wife (Jo Anne Meredith, J.D.'S REVENGE, THE DON IS DEAD) with a much younger woman (Elizabeth Plumb, JUST THE TWO OF US) as he gets an idea into his head to brainwash Cuva into killing his wife, an idea that turns out to be a really bad one. With THE PSYCHO LOVER, O'Neill throws in as many red herrings and nude female bodies as he does plenty of amusing plot twists that help keep the film actively moving, with Montaigne practically being the film's viewing power as the man who is determined to do anything to be rid of his wife and Meredith portraying quite the shrewish spouse, and Cuva delivering a decent performance as the man who is driven to seeing psychedelic images of nude women at the same time he hears voices that drive him to kill, as THE PSYCHO LOVER is a strongly effective thriller that is truly worth seeking out. With John Vincent (SANDRA:THE MAKING OF A WOMAN,THE MANSON MASSACRE) and Alice Friedland (THE KILLING OF A CHINESE BOOKIE,PLEASE DON'T EAT MY MOTHER).
